Plaiting up a storm

I just love plaits (or braids), I think they are so pretty and very useful for getting you hair out of your face. Not only that, but most are very easy to achieve like the basic plait, the fishtail or the french plait, and all are simple yet look really beautiful. They are also good for pretty much any occasion, you can wear them everyday or for special occasions like weddings. Plaits can make another hairstyle look more interesting, for instance by incorporating them into a bun or ponytail.
Below are a few of my favorite examples of different types of plaits.

 I just love them!

Cosmopolitans!

Its Friday, finally! I am off for cocktails tonight, so I thought I would share with you my favorite cocktail recipe for Cosmopolitans! It is very easy!

2 shots of Vodka
1 shot of Cointreau
1 shot of Cranberry juice
Half a shot of Lime  juice
A twist of orange peel (or a small slice, if you fail at it like me!)

Mix all together in a cocktail shaker with lots of ice and then strain into a martini glass!

Enjoy!

Red lipstick tips

I love lipstick, I own closer to 20 different lippys in lots of different shades! Though my favorite shade of lipstick has to be red! Many people say they can't wear red, or other bold lipsticks, or are to afraid to (one of my housemates is to scared to wear anything but clear lip gloss). So I thought I would give some little tips and tricks to help anyone pull off lipstick.
My new red lipstick in action!
  1. Exfoliate your lips, even if you don't want to wear lipstick, you should still take care of you lips, when you brush your teeth give your lips a rub over with your brush, taking off any dead skin.
  2. Always wear something on your lips, even if its just Vaseline! When I was younger I would get very cracked lips, my dentist at the time told me to wear lots of lip gloss! He said it was great for nourishing lips.
  3. Blot! If you want your lipstick to last a long time, apply and then blot, I generally do this quite a few times as I hate it when lipstick only lasts half an hour (you could also invest in a lipstick primer, I have a great one form Urban Decay). It will also give you a much more intense colour!
  4. After you have applied the lipstick, stick a finger in your mouth and drag it back out, this will make sure you don't get any lippy on your teeth!
  5. Finally and probably the most important in my book, is to wear you lip stick with confidence!
Red lipstick always wins!

PARTAAY

I thought I would put these up just before I leave! What do you think of my Stepford wife? xxx

Soldier, Scouse wife and Stepford wife!

Stepford Wife

Today is my housemates Birthday celebrations!! She has six friends coming down so our house is going to be busy! Not only that but they are all Gerodies, so when they get up to speed I will most likely have no idea what they are talking about (I'm a Southerner haha). I eventually decided to dress up a Stepford Wife (my cousin Clarissa's idea) which if you don't know is or are characters from the horror story (and film) Stepford Wives by Ira Levin. I thought it would be really fun to dress up all prim and proper and I had most of the stuff I needed for the costume. In the end all I had to buy was the cardigan and head band!

The dress I bought just under a year ago from Dorothy Perkins, I thought it was a really cute 50s style dress, thought I have barely worn it! The pearl necklace I have had for years and was most likely an Accessorize buy! The cardie is from the Debenams sale and I picked up the cream leather gloves about a year ago from a charity shop for £2.50 (I was very proud). The Head band I bought yesterday from Claires for £4.
The only thing I can't decide on now is whether to wear the apron or not! It does make the costume look alto more mumsie but would a Stepford wife ever be seen out in an apron? Hmmmmm

Shopping!

Today I went on a little shopping spree and bought a few things that I thought I would share...

I bought the new Hervana blush from Benefit (also in the picture below), it is in shades of lovely pale pink and peach, which is great for my skin as I am so pale. I have never bought Benefit blush before, and I don't buy a lot of Benefit in general as I think it can be a little over priced. However I thought Iwould try it out this time, as one of my friend swears by it!

I also bought some Urban Decay lipstick, in the shade Revolution! It comes in a quirky case with a little sword end. It is quite large and heavy but the lipstick itself gives you a really rich intense colour, that lasts a long time, which is very important for lipsticks.

Since I felt like having a shopping spree I decided to buy some pretty Floozie underwear too!

Lastly I bought the few things I needed to finish off my costume, but you will have to wait till tomorrow to see what I bought!

My Muma!

My mother has done a funny blog post about me and some crafting! Go check it out!

'S' costumes

I now only have less than 3 days to sort my costume out for my friends Birthday on Friday! I am going shopping tomorrow and I have been given some great ideas on costumes, below are some of my favorites...
Space girl

Smurf

Senorita

Siren

Sally (Nightmare before Christmas)

But, you see, I am a student, meaning I am poor as hell! So although all the costumes above are great, I would of had to buy a lot of stuff to look the part. So as I always do when I am coming up with costumes, I look at what I already have. This means I can spend as little as possible on a few extra bits to make my costume perfect. So with all this in mind, I have decided to go as......... you will just have to wait and see!

Mini me fancy dress

So I have decided that my blog this week will be themed on fancy dress running up to my friends Birthday Otely run on Friday! So here are some lovely old pictures of me in fancy dress (all of which my mother and Granny made for me!)

Tinkerbell
The Pied Piper of hamelin
Morticia Addams
Morticia Addams, and Dracula (my brother)
Swirling princess, (Sleeping Beauty?)
Mulan and a pink fairy (my cousin)
Guinevere with my beautiful Thai umbrella!

Woman in Black

Yesterday, a few of my friends and I went and watched The Women in Black, it was terrifying!! I was surprised that I was as scared as I was, as I had seen it a few years ago in Theater (which was absolutely amazing!). The plot centers on a young solicitor Mr. Arther Kipps who goes to the haunted house to sort out the legal work of the previous deceased owner. Over the few days he is there he experiences increasingly frightening noises and events caused by the Women in Black. I don't want to spoil the story line for anyone so that is as much detail as I will go into!

The film itself was pretty intense, slowly building up to about a 20 minuite long part of relentless scary happenings. My friends and I huddled together only watching through the gaps between our fingers could not stop jumping! At one point one of my friends even shouted very loudly 'F**K ME' which caused most people in the cinema to crack up!

I thought Daniel Radcliffe's performance was pretty good, I have never been a fan of the Harry Potter movies and have previously found him quite annoying to watch. However his role in this movie didn't involve a lot of talking, so I didn't think he did a bad job.

I would definitely recommend this film if you like a good ghost story, and not if you are a complete scardey cat (you won't sleep for weeks). But overall I would give it 4.5 stars!

Dressing up...

I love dressing up, whether it is dressing fancy for a night out or in layers of coats scarf and jumpers, but I especially love fancy dress! So when my housemate Sophie decided to do an Otely run for her birthday I was Ecstatic!

Now I imagine most of you don't know what an Otely run is, well it's a massive pub crawl which Leeds is famous for, and it requires that you dress up! Each Otely run has a theme, previous ones I have done are... 'you wouldn't start a night like this', animals, nerds, 'Vamps, Tramps and Zombie Pirates (my all time fave one), OAPs, occupations, the letter 'B' and white shirts (you take a marker pen and draw on each other).
Below are some pictures of me on previous Otely runs and other fancy dress moments...
Zombie Pirate
Angel of Death
White shirts!
Chavs

Occupations (mad scientist)
Nerds!

So as you can see I have dressed up an number of times in my 2 years at uni! The theme to the up coming one is the letter 'S' (as its is sophies birthday), so anyone got any good ideas?
